Grueby Pottery

Grueby Pottery, Vase, around 1900, ceramic, dimensions unknown

I’m interested in Grueby Pottery because of the way in which they utilized form, content and color. They were famous for their Grueby matte green glaze which resembled the color of a watermelon and was often paired with a yellow glaze that helped to amplify the green. The form and content resembled the american style of art nouveau with long curves and petal like forms with long sinewy stems and imagery of folding leaves.
